Your missionary is finished serving! I went on one of his last calls this morning before reporting to the mission office. We met with an investigator named Igor who is 82 yrs old. He is Russian, raised in Iran and spent a large part of his life in the UK. His wife, the love of his life died 3 years ago. He is a gracious, loving humble man who is looking for answers that will bring joy back to his life and some knowledge of the Lords plan of Happiness. A spiritual intimate meeting took place and some wonderful stories and feelings shared. At the end of the meeting Igor asked Elder Thomas what was most meaningful to him at this moment of his life. I stopped him at this point and identified that this was his last visit of his mission, the last day of his mission, that he reports to the mission to prepare to fly home today after two years of serving in just a couple hours. In his last teaching missionary moment, Elder Thomas wept as he expressed his love for the Savior and the ability to be his representative. He bore a touching testimony. If I know him well he doesn’t get emotional much and this was a sweet moment for us. You couldn’t have hoped for a better discussion of the gospel to be your last in the mission field than this, it was a beautiful moment. You would have been so proud. Somehow I feel this visit was a gift to your son for his dedicated service, kind of icing on the cake moment. Elder Thomas gave it all, he gave everything he could to the last moment of his mission. Thanks for sharing him and enjoy the years to come.
