The Mormon Tabernacle Choir was the highlight of our week this week! Not only did they come, but we were able to attend and witness the incredible talent that was on display at the concert! It is a pretty funny story how we were able to go. We were in a lesson teaching our recent convert Mark and he was like, "We should go to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir concert tomorrow." So we agreed and said that we would call our mission president later that day and see if we could get permission since it is outside of our mission boundaries. We called president late that night and he gave us permission to go, I didn't think that he was going to let us attend, but the only condition was to not tell any of the other missionaries! (So don't tell anyone okay?) We were so excited that we were jumping up and down and running around our house screaming and yelling it was so funny. Then we realized that we still had to get the tickets, so on Saturday we went to Deseret Book to see if they had any more....SOLD OUT. No worries, we went to a members home and had them check Ticketmaster....no luck. Then as a last resort we looked on craigslist.... NOTHING. We decided to ask the Bishops of the wards if they knew anyone with 3 extra tickets, but all we got was a name of a person who knows the guy that manages the choirs traveling arrangements, so we didn't know if he could help or not. With only 2 hours until the concert we got a call saying that 3 tickets were waiting for us at the Will call ticket office! What a miracle and what a blessing. We had a great time! Mark drove us there in his sweet truck and we were the only missionaries there! We could tell who the members there were because they would all say hi to us! We were like rock stars at the concert! The Choir was amazing and they sang a lot of songs that I had never heard the choir sing before including some African songs! It was neat. During the encore songs they invited a special guest conductor up to lead the choir and it was Sandra Day O'Connor (not sure if I spelled that right), but she was looking pretty old, Mark was surprised that I knew who she was. It was a really fun night and we didn't get home until about 11pm which is WAY past curfew, but President Ellsworth was at the concert too so we were supervised. I am so glad that I was able to go.
We had a great week and even though we weren't able to find any new investigators we did find one really great potential investigator who we were able to sit down with and teach the message of the Restoration to. The only reason he isn't an investigator yet is because we didn't get to set up a specific return appointment. Hopefully we'll get to teach him again this week and he will be able to come to church with us. His name is Jim and his wife is Belinda, they are in their late 60's.
This morning we went and hiked Camelback Mountain! We left our apartment at 5:10 or so and arrived at the mountain at 5:30. It was still dark so we had to use flashlights, but once we got to the top we were able to watch a marvelous sunrise. Then after the hike we went to Denny's as a district (2 sisters and 4 elders). It is good to get to know each of them and be able to learn together. We are a tight district and that is always a great thing. I love where I am serving and the missionaries here are wonderful.
We have had a great week and will continue to facilitate miracles here.
